Our new tutor Luc introduces himself

25th May 2019 by sandra Comment?

Three months ago we welcomed a new tutor to our Taaltutor pool, Luc Boeke. Luc lives in Switzerland, but is originally Dutch. He mainly works as a Dutch tutor, but can also teach French and English.

Who is Luc Boeke?

“Energetic, agile communicator and networker, always on the move…” These are five key ingredients that can be found in people’s feedback when asked about me.

I was in born in 1967, the Summer of Love, in the Netherlands. But since I first left the country for a longer period, in 1987, I consider Europe as my home. Of the past 30 years, I have lived a third abroad: France, Belgium and Switzerland are my top 3 of foreign destinations. As a result of my roaming around, four of Europe’s key languages are in my skill set.

The environment I thrive in is multinational and -cultural. Not a coincidence my employers include companies like Liberty Global, GfK, Orange: each of them has a footprint that spans continents. I graduated in 1999 and worked as a university teacher, a market researcher and a data analyst ever since.

Throughout my career, working with people has been a tremendous drive for me. In hindsight, I have found that in my work in hospitality and education the people ‘factor’ was at its best. For me, it is all about accommodating people, supporting, coaching, motivating and energizing them.

So maybe not a coincidence that, in the sidelines of my academic career, I have had the pleasure and privilege to work as a volunteer on a multitude of projects and social/educational programs, for example teaching computer skills to the elderly or coaching refugees on their way to the Dutch labour market.

Now that my career has matured and I look back over the past 20 years, I am determined to shift to ‘people work’ again. And that is when I found out about Taaltutor and the opportunity to work as a language teacher, in the Spring of 2019.

A final remark on me and who I am… one of my greatest passions in life is doing sports: running, hiking, (water) skiing, biking, bowling and football. And wherever we can, my wife Marije and I go outdoors together with our two dogs, Stella and Lilly.

Best from Zurich (CH), hope to see/speak/Skype with you soon!
